Donghae Hatz has a good kit and the survivability is acceptable.
He provides a good DEF reduction and Status Effect immunity for the team.
He isn't a mandatory unit to have.
Hatz becomes immune to status effects, Ignites the Donghae to remove all debuffs and status effects from allies, and grants Status Effect Immunity for 4s. Hatz then deals 700% of his ATK as DMG to enemies in front of him and Stuns them for 4s. Hatz deals 2 000% of his DEF as DMG when landing attacks.
Hatz swings the Donghae to deal 600% of his ATK as DMG to enemies in range, Locking them for 5s.
A burning shinsu zone is created in the path of the Donghae for 7s.
Enemies in the shinsu zone take 400% of Hatz's DEF as DMG every second.
Hatz deals 200% of his ATK as DMG to an enemy 7 times.
Each attack Jolts the enemy and decreases their DEF by 20% for 20s. (Max: 7 stacks)
In addition, Hatz increases his own DEF by the amount of enemy DEF decreased for 20s. (DEF gain limit per instance - 40% of the caster's DEF)
Hatz immediately removes status effects he is inflicted with and becomes immune to status effects for 2s. (Cooldown: 6s)
He then counters to deal 800% of his DEF as DMG and Stuns the target for 2s.
Each time this effect activates, Hatz recovers 40% of his HP and his DEF increases by 50%. (This buff cannot be removed with buff removal skills.)
In addition, Hatz's Effect Resistance is fixed at 0, and his Effect Hit increases or decreases by 1 for every 1 Effect Resistance increase or decrease.
Magic Resistance
Hatz's DEF increases by 150% while the burning shinsu zone from Sea of Flame is active.
Hatz additionally decreases the enemy's DEF by 5% when using Seven Strike Ghost Fish Wheel Dance: Ascending Dragon.
Hatz recovers 300 Energy whenever Clear Mind activates.
Clear Mind's cooldown is decreased by 3s.
Hatz's damage taken decreases by 20%.
Hatz's DEF increases by 30% for 6s for each debuff removed with Donghae, Ignition! (Up to 200%)
Hatz's HP increases by 100% and his DEF by 120% in Arenas.
(This buff cannot be removed with buff removal skills.)

Bari is best for overall survivability.
If his team can keep him alive, he could also run Runda.

Donghae Hatz has insane survivability and damage.
He gets a lot of DEF increase stacks, making him hard to kill for ATK scaling DPS units.
He has a good uptime on Status Effect Immunity, so he is quite hard to stop.
When he uses his Special Move, he gives his whole team Status Effect Immunity and cleanses Debuffs too.
Don't put units that move forward in the middle position of the frontline, if enemy DHatz ends up facing your whole team, he will kill them with his Special Move.
Use Max HP% DPS units instead of ATK scaling ones.
Hugo can steal and reduce his DEF a bit, but more importantly, she applies a Stat Buff Block debuff that will prevent him from getting too many DEF stacks.
Position Reflejo in the front left/right as the only frontline unit so that Hatz's Special Move will be aimed at him instead of your whole team.
Yasratcha can charm him, delaying his Special Move for at least 5s and dealing a good amount of damage to him.
